One book at a time? Or more than one? If more, are they different types/genres? Or similar?
Usually at least two. Right now it’s History Laid Bare, The Thirteenth Tale and I’m very slowly savoring Edgeworks: Volume 1. I have no idea why I do this.

Do you have multiple copies of any of your books? I have a trade paperback of Jane Eyre along with a hardcover of The Complete Novels of Charlotte and Emily Bronte along with a mass market of Pride and Prejudice and a beautiful hardcover of The Complete Novels of Jane Austen Vol I. I have an extra of Winter’s Heart by Robert Jordan as well.
If so, why? Absent-mindedness? You love them that much? First Editions for the shelf, but paperbacks to read? I have the extra Jane Eyre because I was craving it after seeing the miniseries on Masterpiece Theatre and couldn’t find the hardcover at the time. I have the extra Pride and Prejudice from high school, but I could not resist the gorgeous hardcover on sale. It’s really pretty, but not very portable. The extra Jordan is for a similar reason to the Eyre. Couldn’t find the hardcover I had. I really need more space for shelves so I don’t have to go hunting in the attic for books.
If not, why not? Not enough space? Not enough money? Too sensible to do something so foolish? I need more space!
